Wine and Dine

Wine and Dine with Meredith and Sally:

My friend Sally and I are both taking the Wine Class together and figured we would try the famous trend going around on TikTok, Feta Block pasta and to pair it with a bread/ olive oil/ spinach dip appetizer and ice cream and homemade cookies!

Appetizer:

Board with fresh baguette and Extra Virgin Olive Oil/ Balsamic dip and Warm Spinach Dip. We paired it with the wine called Josh. Below is some information about Josh.

Wine Pairing:

Brand: Josh Cellars
Country/ State: California
Wine Type: Rose and Blush Wine
Varietal: Rose Blend
Style: Crisp
Taste: Strawberry, White Peach, Citrus
Body: Light- Bodied

Details: California- Fermented cold to ensure maximum retention of bright fresh fruit aromas and to create a crisp and elegant Rose. The nose is bright with aromas of fresh strawberries and white peaches. The wine is dry and bursts with citrus

Review: My overall review of the Josh is that it smells fruity but dry. But, when I tasted it, it didn't taste as strong as it smelled. Not very bold flavor compared to the bolder smell. When I tasted it with the food though it was more acidic tasting because the flavor of the olive oil is not sweet compared to the wine. But strawberries in my opinion pair really well with balsamic so when I got a taste with the bread with the balsamic on it I thought the wine paired well with it. With the spinach dip I didn't really like it together. It was two completely opposite tastes. Individually though the spinach dip was super yummy especially with the fresh baguette.

Dinner:

Tiktok Feta Pasta: Pasta with cherry tomatoes, fresh garlic, extra virgin olive oil, red pepper flakes, feta crumbles (were sold out of Feta blocks at the grocery store), and pasta of your choice! Tiktok Feta pasta has been super popular.

Review: My overall review of the Rancho La Gloria Mango Margarita drink was that it was very good. It was definitely strong in alcohol content but as a college student that wasn't my main concern. I was worried it would be too strong in Tequila taste and not as strong with the wine taste. But surprisingly it was very mellow. As I smelled the Margarita Wine I can definitely smell the alcohol content and strong scent of mango. I poured some in a glass and added ice as directed and it was absolutely delicious. In addition I thought the wine was strong bodied and very smooth when drinking it. I didn't get a burning affect or a weird aftertaste.

The TikTok pasta was out of this world. I am a big TikTok user and have seen this all over the app with people making it so I was so excited to make this a Valentines Day activity and try this. The pasta was rich and creamy with the cheese sauce that was made from the Feta. The taste with the Feta Pasta and Margarita wine was quite interesting. Together they paired better than I expected because the sweet and the savory went well together due to their distinct flavors.

Dessert:

Homemade chocolate chip cookies and Milk/Cookies Ice cream. After searching online for the perfect pairing with a sweet dessert white wine we decided to make homemade chocolate chip cookies and pair it with a cookie ice cream. It was perfect to end the dinner and eat on a cold snow day!

Wine Pairing:

Name: Cupcake Wine Angel Food Cake
Region: California, United States
ABV: 13%

Description: Our Angel Food is a luscious, aromatic white blend made from premium grades from our sun-drenched vineyards in California. Delightfully reminiscent of Angel Food cake, this wine has flavors of Granny Smith apple, vanilla bean and toasted coconut that culminate in a creamy mouthfeel.

Review: First, when smelling the wine I thought it would have smelled sweeter. Since it is a dessert wine, I was expecting it to be more like a moscato, but when I tasted it, it was buttery and dry just like I smelled. I didn't get as much of the citrus notes and vanilla that they were describing. The wine did have a nice golden color too, but with the name being called Cupcake I did imply it would taste like a pure vanilla dessert.

Pairing it with the chocolate chip cookies and ice cream I think it tasted pretty good and paired well. Even though the wine was dry, t had a good contrasting taste with the sweetness from the ice cream and the cookies. The not so overpowering taste of the wine tasted good with the sweet notes of the ice cream and cookies. I definitely though want to try the other wines from this label for the next wine dinner dessert or a taste now blog so stay tuned to see which one I try next and like!
